After achieving excellent success of our Building Structures Design software (BUSD) we have put our
knowledge on Bridge sector too. Finally we have developed software
Bridge Sub-structures Design software (BRISD).
Before development of BRISD, Bridge Engineer Niranjan Poudel has worked on various Bridge projects. One of them was Samari Bridge at Hetauda of Tribhuwan Highway.He worked as Bridge Engineer with international consultant and contractor .It is the longest bridge of that highway.
BRISD designs wall type abutments and piers. Piers may be rectangular or semicircular at ends. It designs abutment and pier stem, open foundations for abutment and pier. Two load combinations are kept for abutment stem and four loads combinations for foundations. Similarly it also designs pier shaft and open foundation for pier. Four load combinations are for design of pier shaft and pier foundations as piers are always in the river bed. It also designs bored concrete pile. Bored concrete piles can be designed both for cohesive and non cohesive soils with or without under reamed bulb. Under reamed bulb may be single or many.IRC78:2000 has been followed.
It designs Elastomeric Bearings,Steel Bearings and Pot-Cum-Ptfe bearing. Design of steel bearing contains design of rocker and roller bearings. Messages appears as help from IRC s. Impact percentage curve from IRC6:2000 has been kept in program. Typical views of rocker and roller bearings are printed with print out. Various graphics of rocker and roller bearings also are given. In design of elastomeric bearing various clauses from IRC-83 (part II)-1987 has been provided in the form of messages. One graphic of bearing with bearing pin has been provided. Next graphic is standard plan and design data. Program of POT-CUM-PTFE bearing as per is IRC-83 (part III)-2002 also being developed.
Seismic is considered as per IRC 6:2000. Seismic coefficients for various zones, importance factor and foundation clay factor are kept in combo boxes. The following load combinations as per IRC 6:2000 is considered.
Combo A: Dead Load + Live Load (Non Seismic)
Combo B :Dead Load + Live Load + Seismic
Combo C : Flooded + Non Seismic
Combo D : Flooded + Seismic
This software was used partially while designing Ranjor River Bridge (Road Connectivity Sector I Project ADB Grant:0051-NEP(SF)" of Nayapul-Manthali-Khurkot ,Ramechap of Nepal. , DoR (
Construction Completed).)
It was used fully while finalizing the design of Ranjor Bridge.Some comments were done by
S.B.Joshi regarding the weight of return walls of Abutment. This was incorporated immediately.

The software was again updated while working with SNC LAVALIN INTERNATIONAL INC
Canada, in association with SPAN Pvt. Ltd, India in association with Silt Consultants (P) Ltd. &
ERMC at
East West Highway -Koshi Bridge -East West Highway Road.(Udaipur-Gaighat-
New Koshi Bridge at Chatara which is under construction- Transport Project Preparatory Facility
(TPPF) ADB Grant:0227-NEP"). This software was used to design number of bridges .Figures
of various forces acting at Abutment and Pier have been added. Repeated input has been made
single input. Confusing colors were improved. A lot of new messages has been added. Outputs
were verified. The consultant was "SNC LAVALIN INTERNATIONAL INC Canada, in
association with SPAN Pvt.Ltd, India in association with Silt Consultants (P) Ltd. & ERMC".
